I posted my first website!

Someone sent me an email noting I hadn't posted for a while--well, it's impossible to keep up with a facebook account, school, work and family! I always have liked Xanga, just that I already spend SO much time on the computer using Adobe software.

Check out the website I did for my oldest daughter:

www.stacihendershot.com

I have 18 units left to get my B.A. from Cal State, but I want to take a couple of extra classes, plus I'm missing my foreign language requirement, so I won't graduate until May.

My summer was pretty exciting, since I spent the whole month of June in Paris, France. Went over with 15 students from my Cal State, and my roommate was an old fart like me--ha ha. I took hundreds of pics, and my most adventuresome activity was riding the Velib bicycles around Paris!

Just checking in

I got involved recently in facebook, to check in with some old friends...kinda fun, but again, not much time. I finished last semester with 15 units (had to drop 1 class--bad teacher) and did well albeit stressed out at the end. I haven't gotten half done over the holidays and break that I wanted too, because I'm trying to help my mom get out from under identity theft situation! My mom is also an obsessive-compulsive hoarder, and she's finally letting me help "dig her out." It is pretty crazy--I have to wear a mask and gloves in the house, but I've just started hauling things out as best I can. My goal is to just get her room cleared out at least.

I have copied many of my old home movies off of VHS onto miniDV (digital tape) and then into my computer. Video files are memory-hungry, so I went out last week and bought a 750GB hard drive for only $199 at Costco. Remember when we used to think 10GB was huge?! I have been self-teaching myself Final Cut Express, which has been crashing a lot so then I resort to iMovie. The end result is fun though, as we can watch home movies on DVD with chapters and everything. I know there are some DVD recorders that do it directly, but I like to edit and fix!

Keep on keeping on...

No new work on my shower--the floor is ready to grout, but then a bunch of school projects hit me. I am just finishing up a motion graphics project typography, and will post on Youtube when I'm finished. If you want to see a previous project I did (when I didn't know much about After Effects program...still don't!!), you can go to Youtube and search "Hendershot." You will find me on page 2 at the end, my 2 girls should be showing in opening frame. It was just a music video I did about my  girls, since they have taken a lot of photos together.

My Cal State Channel Islands campus is interesting, as it was originally opened in 1936 as a State Psychiatric Hospital, and operated as such until sometime in the 1990s. We are enough off the freeway that the campus is literally in the middle of farm fields, despite lots of recent housing developments. Thankfully I am able to drive back roads to get there and avoid the congested freeways.

This photo must be taken near the curvy, 3-mile mountain road I take to come in the "back way." You can see that not all of So. California is one big freeway :) I love the campus, it is very interesting. I have still not explored even 1/10 of the campus, as it is one big maze. Here are the rooftops--the buildings all run together, with hallways going every which way. There are dozens of little courtyards to stop and study in, and of course, the weather is great 90% of the year!

My next motion graphics project is to create a 60-second "title sequence" to the opening of a new TV show or movie--one from my imagination or one not yet on TV. I haven't decided yet, but was thinking of a comedy about a funeral home, instead of a soap opera like "Six Feet Under" was. But that's where my creative thinking ends, and I have no idea where to go from there. One of the top opening title sequences ever was from the movie "Catch me if you Can." You might be able to see on Youtube. There's no way I have the technical skills for that, so it's almost intimidating.

I'm really crazy to be taking 18 units...so I better get back to work. I also do medical record review about 20 hours a week, so I wish I could clone myself

Shower still not finished!

Just a quick update to let some of you know that I keep up with many of the Xanga posts and enjoy them, but never get around to posting for myself. I spent much of my summer trying to clear out 1 of 3 stuffed storage rooms of my mom--she is an obsessive-compulsive hoarder (like the one on Dr. Phil, but worse). I did get one storage facility cleared, saving her $265 a month! Ran out of time to do the others, and now I'm back in school full-time. Her house is in dire need also, but she freaks if I try to throw anything out.

It took me decades, but I'm finally on track to finish my B.A. degree in Digital Art with a minor in business, hopefully in 3 more semesters. I've transferred from community college to Cal State University Channel Islands. For those of you familiar with Ventura County in Southern CA, this is a fairly new university, opened 5 years ago, on the site of the former "Camarillo State Hospital." It is a very interesting campus, and you can literally get lost in the long hallways that go every direction, but I have 3 of my 4 classes in the same computer art room. My daughter told me she heard people have seen ghosts, like an old man sitting at a bus stop, and I told her I'd keep my eyes peeled--but that if I did see one, I'd be running and screaming!! I have 15 units (5 classes) and 3 of those classes are "lab classes," which means for a 3-unit class, it meets 6 hours a week. So I will be very, very busy--I also work 20 hours a week.

My hubby has been out on disability since January, and he is still home. He is hoping to job hunt in the next couple of months. He is playing "Mr. Mom" right now, and tomorrow night our Bible study group is coming to dinner--and I told him no way, unless you do it...so he is! We'll see what happens.

I never quite finished my shower project (started last summer!!) but it's close now. The pebble floor is a pain, but will be like a foot massage when we start using it. Everything extra I did like the niches, the seat, and the glass border took oodles of extra time. Plus, the porcelain tile I used on wall was 18" square, very heavy to hang on the wall.
I don't know why I have to do everything the hard way.

Hopefully I can finish in the next month before school gets overly crazy.

It has been a great summer in California weather-wise until a few days ago. We are having a week of around 100 degrees, but at least we haven't gotten flooded out like some of you. In fact, I've forgotten what rain looks like...

Ramblings

In early February, my 2 girls went on a long anticipated trip together, first to NYC for a quick 3 days and then Florida. They stayed with the friend of a friend in Soho. My oldest is a photographer with a Canon 30D camera, and at the bottom of my post are a couple of pics she took. I am having a hard time with the Xanga interface and getting the pictures into the middle of my blog! Frustrating.

...some random thoughts. I agree with "browneyedpsycho" that the recent American Idol girls all tend to look alike (I had just told my husband that the night we watched), and the African-American girls do blow the others away. The reddish-haired girl has some promise as does the 17-yr old. I liked the girl who sang first, the one that reminds me of previous contestant Latoya. I don't think any of the guys stand a change in the final 12. BTW, I love our DVD recorder, get to fast-forward during those horrendously long commercials

...anyone sick of hearing about Anna-Nichole Smith??

...our church had the African Children's Choir this week, and we hosted 3 little boys and a 25-yr old Ugandan. Quite a neat experience. If you ever have a chance to see them, DO!

...anyone watching "Lost" again? It is hard to get interested again after the long hiatus...but it's still intriguing. Same with "Heroes." They seem to bring up more questions than they answer. Very creative though.

...I don't post on Xanga much as I'm busy with school. I'm a graphic arts major, and every class involves big projects. Anyone interested, you can go to youtube.com and search "hendershot," in which only a few videos will come up. Mine is the black one entitled "Simi Girls Rock"...all of 50 seconds long. It was my first After Effects project, and I didn't have time to do actual animation so I made a "music video" of sorts. That is my favorite class, but not enough time to spend on it since I have 5 classes total.
